Colorado Springs, Colorado - Page 4

Pikes Peak is the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in North America. The ultra-prominent 14,115-foot fourteener is located in Pike National Forest, 12 miles west of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The mountain is named in honor of American explorer Zebulon Pike.

Both coming and going are steep for the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, which ascends Colorado's famous 14,115-foot Pikes Peak from its base station far below in Manitou Springs. Now owned by the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado, the incline has carried passengers up what may be America's most famous mountain since 1891

With the opening of the new Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center, driving to the summit is in high demand. For the convenience of guests planning on driving themselves to the summit, a reserved time slot is now required to park on top. Enjoy this information about a drive to the summit.

A View From Pikes Peak
This is beautiful country, so beautiful that Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write the song 'America The Beautiful', our national anthem from atop Pikes Peak overlooking Colorado Springs and beyond.
